2 Injured In Fast-Moving Bayonne Fire

BAYONNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A fast-moving fire in Bayonne, New Jersey damaged two houses, left two people injured and several others displaced.

One of the homes that were damaged belongs to the city’s public safety director Robert Kubert.

The Jersey Journal reported the fire started around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in a two-story home in the 500 block of Avenue E in Bayonne that had been converted into apartments. It soon spread to the top level of a neighboring three-story home.

Authorities said a woman hurt her leg when she jumped from a second-story apartment window, while a man living in the same unit suffered smoke inhalation. Both were treated at a hospital.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in the two-story home quickly, but it took about an hour to bring the fire at the other home under control.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Sunday evening.
