Assistance with health insurance enrollment under the Affordable Care Act will be available in the Bayonne City Council Chambers on Friday, December 12, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Representatives of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be available to assist the public. Outside in the lobby, there will be a health fair presented by CarePoint Health. Mayor Davis said, “Under the Affordable Care Act, various health insurance options are available. The City of Bayonne is hosting this event, so that our residents have the opportunity to sign up for health coverage for the year 2015 before the deadline. I would like to encourage anyone interested in obtaining health insurance to come to this event.”
Here are the most important dates for 2015 health insurance coverage:
December 15, 2014: This is the last date to enroll for coverage that starts January 1, 2015.
December 31, 2014: This is the date when all 2014 Marketplace coverage ends, no matter when you enrolled.
January 1, 2015: This is the date 2015 coverage can start if you apply by December 15, 2014, or if you accept automatic enrollment in your 2014 plan or a similar plan.
February 15, 2015: This is the last day to enroll in 2015 coverage. If you miss this deadline, you can’t sign up for a health plan inside or outside the Marketplace for the rest of 2015. The only exception is if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
For Medicaid, CHIP, and SHOP plans, people can apply at any time.
- There’s no limited enrollment period for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). You can apply at any time.
- There’s also no limited enrollment period for small businesses to enroll in Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) coverage for their employees. You can apply at any time.
