Mayor Jimmy Davis’ proposed development plan for the Military Ocean Terminal spells death for Broadway, plain and simple. Davis announced in a press release on Thursday that Bayonne is now one step closer to being two separate towns. The new plans for the Military Ocean Terminal maintain the Davis’ mantra of heavy residential rental properties and the continuing theme of retail space not located on Broadway. All but one swath of land won’t see any major ratables or job creation. Davis’ plan is very different from previous visions of what the MOT should look like. Previous plans sought to create jobs and had had light industry sites mixed with hotels, a park, and limited housing plans.
Of course, Davis said he would do the exact opposite of what he is doing now when he ran for Mayor. He lied right to the people of Bayonne’s faces. People voted for Davis because he promised to create good paying jobs at the M.O.T. Instead, just like the Resnick’s property, people are getting what they didn’t sign up for, and a tax increase to boot.
Not to mention, Assembly Candidate Nicholas Chiaravalloti represents the developer (Waitex) Howard Li. Waitex was initially brought in by the Smith Administration as a potential developer for the MOT. Sources tell us that Waitex wanted to develop heavy residential at the MOT, which the Smith Administration was against. So it isn’t a huge surprise that Nicholas Chiaravalloti supported Mayor Jimmy Davis in the 2014 municipal election. We guess Chiaravalloti didn’t like the idea that he would no longer be able to get rich off the taxpayers of Bayonne. He played his hand on Davis, he won, and now he is once again, getting rich off the Bayonne taxpayer. Bonus, he also gets to be Assemblyman.
Council President Sharon Ashe Nadrowski’s sister Diane Ashe Liming, will be taking over as Bayonne Economic Opportunity Fund chief. That nepotism and cronyism is making a comeback!
Congrats to ex-Jersey City Mayoral Candidate Jerry Walker. His non profit “Team Walker” was awarded a hefty payday from the City to run an “after school program” for city kids. We hope to see the return of this investment by taxpayers . We hope he ain’t just bringing kids to the park. We hope it isn’t just political patronage. Didn’t Davis endorse Walker after Fulop dissed him and endorsed his opponent? Yeah, seems legit.
Another Staple of Broadway, Naples Pizzeria will be closing down soon. The owners haven’t set a date yet. They announced on their Facebook page that they are still open, for now, but that they will be closing very soon. Loved Naples, sad to see it go.
Good to see Mayor Davis throwing a “tailgate” before the big BHS Football Game on Friday. But, when you incite teens to drink by throwing an event with the main premise of drinking, people are gonna get hurt, and they did. There were several fights after the BHS game and several students were left injured.
Don’t worry guys, we didn’t forget about you. Did the City Workers get their contract yet? Have they had a seat at the table? Will they be snow plowing this winter without raises?
