State Report: Bayonne has least amount of High Performing Teachers in State

By Bayonne Local Bot: Edited by Scott Marlow

According to a new state study, Bayonne teachers have the least amount of  high performing teachers in the state. The study was performed by the State of New Jersey and used data taken directly from New Jersey Public Schools. Many question the study’s methodology. But, the study is being bolstered by the State and not-so-teacher-friendly Governor Chris Christie. The teachers in Bayonne are again without a contract, and the report won’t help their plight.  With upcoming school board elections, many issues like this report will surely be thrust into the limelight by the many candidates.

This is just an example of how these results tell you nothing about the quality of teachers we have in Bayonne, or anywhere else in the state for that matter. It continues to show that the state’s new evaluation system is flawed.

I’m not sure who wrote this little snippet of an article, but there are many factors that aren’t mentioned including the fact that Bayonne was listed in the top 25 districts labeled as “effective”. Please consider a retraction or a rewrite of this article.

I agree with Jaclyn; such a bold headline certainly requires detailed information as well as valid citations. Teachers certainly do not need to add to the attacks they experience from the media without cause. It takes about five minutes of research to find out that this “study” explains nothing.

Bayonne’s problem is not its teachers; it is the administration. Transferring teachers frequently is no way to create educators who are experts in their fields. Curriculum leaders unnecessarily berating teachers in front of students, rather than training and supporting teachers, is disgusting.

When students and parents complain to administration that a curriculum leader BULLIES teachers and students, and the bullied teacher is let go and the curriculum leader is not held accountable for her actions, we are telling our children that their comfort and safety mean nothing.

Its no secret that your last name will take you a long way at the BBOE. With noway to keep on all the new hires on with the high salary to budget ratio who do you think they are choosing? i would bet relationships over achievement and qualifications.

This means nothing except that these administrators either have “high standards” or they are out to get the teachers for some reason. Take a look at the categories on the teacher evaluation forms–they are pretty vague, especially when differentiating between “effective ” (3) or “highly effective (4
