Students at Bayonne High School are providing free beauty services to seniors for the second consecutive year. The students, who are in vocational classes, practice on the seniors while fulfilling required hours for their training. They will provide free haircuts, manicures, and waxing. There will be a discounted charge for chemical services: perms and color touch-ups. Mayor Davis said, “This program provides excellent value for our community. Seniors receive free haircuts from students who are gaining valuable experience in the trade that they are learning. I would like to thank all of the parties that made this service possible.”
The hair program is the result of a partnership by the Bayonne Board of Education, the Hudson County Schools of Technology, and the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF). Ana Quintela, the BEOF’s Executive Director, said, “The BEOF is happy to continue working with the public school systems of Bayonne and Hudson County to bring this great service to Bayonne’s seniors.”
Space is limited. The service is available by reservation only on Thursdays at 3:15 p.m. when school is in session. The dates of the program will be announced. The BEOF will provide transportation to and from Bayonne High School for the senior customers. Seniors may make reservations and obtain tickets at any of three locations: 1) the BEOF main office, 555 Kennedy Boulevard; 2) Nutrition Program, 535 Avenue A; and 3) Nutrition Program, 16 West 4th Street. For more information, call Donna at the BEOF at 201-437-7222, extension 23.
