In a recent agreement reached by the Bayonne City Council and Bayonne Bay Developers LLC, Bayonne Bay Developers will receive a 30 year tax abatement and pay just about $1 million per acre for gold coast property at the MOT. Also, union labor will not be a required condition of any development at the military ocean terminal. Previous administrations have required that Union labor and Bayonne high school apprenticeships be part of any construction done at the military ocean terminal.
In the hotly contested 2014 mayors race, mayor Davis criticized the Smith administration for selling land at the former MOT at $1.8 million per acre. The Davis administration also criticized Smith for five year tax abatements given to other developers. The mayor’s office nor the city council president could be reached for comment.
